Cambridge NY Food Co-opThe Cambridge Food Co-op opened in 1976 as a member-owned and run not-for-profit corporation.

Everyone is welcome at the Co-op—you do not need to be a member to shop. However, we rely on our membership to operate the store each day, determine the regulations and rules, elect members of the Advisory Board, and, in general, work toward the goals and principles expressed in our by-laws.

BASICS OF MEMBERSHIP

Membership privileges are for your household. In order to receive the benefits of membership (see options below), an annual fee of $20.00 is due to the Co-op.*

  • Being a part of the community!

To join the Co-op, please stop by the store, or fill out an application online, and make your annual membership payment. Supporting members are eligible for their discount immediately. Working members need to complete training and a shadow shift before they are eligible for the working discount.

TRAINING TO BE A WORKING MEMBER

New working members begin with a training shift to introduce themselves to Co-op operations. When you sign up to be a working member, our staff will set up a time for you to learn the basic procedures of the store. After your training shift, you will then "shadow" another member for a full shift. Finally, new working members will work a regular 3¾ hour shift shortly after the training (within the same month if feasible). Double working members work a second shift during the first month and then two shifts each month thereafter.

INFORMATION FOR ALL MEMBERS

  • Membership cards kept at register to be presented at checkout.
  • Members experiencing financial hardship may apply for a waiver of the annual fee in exchange of working an extra shift during that year.
  • Regularly-scheduled special discount offerings and sale events will be offered throughout the year for all members.
  • Members are encouraged to attend the November and March membership meetings and any special meetings that may be called. The Advisory Board welcomes participation of members in its monthly meetings (except during personnel discussions). Meeting notices are posted on the bulletin board in the store.
