The Co-op is Currently Hiring
The store is looking for both an Administrative Assistant and Front End Associates. Please email General Manager, Katie Kerr at email@example.com for more info on either position.
Leslie Bender - Front-End Associate
How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I started as a volunteer at the Co-op when I moved to Cambridge in 2014. But, I have been the Sunday shift manager the last four years (this was a temporary gig ya’ll!) -- We're certainly glad that Leslie has stayed on!
Favorite product: Favorite product is Argyle honey flavored yogurt…my mid morning snack every Sunday, and Effie’s Oat Cookies.
Favorite part about working at the Co-op? The Co-op has given me the opportunity to meet and assist many people in Cambridge, more than I would have met on my own.
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc: I volunteer at Hildene in Manchester, VT and at my grandchildren’s school. I enjoy gardening and kayaking when weather permits.

How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I started shopping at the Coop four years ago when I moved to Cambridge. I was a regular shopper at the Honest Weight Food Coop in Albany for years and was thrilled to have found this little gem in Cambridge! I had been retired for about eight months and was looking to do something part time when I saw this position advertised. I am now starting into my fourth year!
Favorite product: I have so many favorite products but what I like the best is our extensive bulk product section. I can buy as little or as much as I need.
Favorite part about working at the Co-op? Hands down it’s the people, both my coworkers and the customers. Being so new to the area, it’s been great to meet so many wonderful people!
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc: In my spare time I enjoy hiking and kayaking. My sister and I enjoy making soaps and body care products and are in the process of starting a small business selling those products. I am also studying to become an herbalist.
Melissa Carll - Marketing Manager
How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I've been a part of the Co-op since I moved to the Salem/Cambridge area in 2012. I started as a working member, and shortly thereafter was asked to join the Board of Directors. I served on the Board for about a year and a half before the position of Assistant Manager opened up in the fall of 2015. I decided to jump ship from my old job at a non-profit and take on a new adventure working for a much more community-minded and food-friendly organization. I worked as the Assistant Manager for two years, and then after the former manager left, I co-managed the store with two different and incredible women (Shannon and then Kathleen) before going out on maternity leave in the summer of 2020. I now work a little more behind the scenes (and from home) doing the organization's marketing, but on Saturdays I am still in the store for a few hours helping out where needed.
Favorite product: Aqua Vitea komucha on tap, Orga Foods Cranberry Seed Crackers, and Equal Exchange organic bananas...Oh, and Laughing Child Farm organic sweet potatoes!
Favorite part about working at the Co-op? Talking to a lot of friendly people! We have such an interesting community of people that shop at the store: artists, bakers, writers, farmers. In my head, I've collected vignettes of many of the Co-op characters. Someday, I hope to write down those little life moments you get when you meet someone that imparts wisdom–my days at the Co-op are full of them.
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc: I spend a lot of time tromping around the woods with my husband, daughter, and dog. Canoeing/kayaking/paddleboarding balance my soul. And, I really like to read cozy mysteries (you know, the kind where the cat helps solve who committed the crime–definitely not scary mysteries).
Sophia Miner- Front-End Associate
How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I have worked at the Co-op for a little over a year.
Favorite product: Probably Raspberry Yerba Mates
Favorite part about working at the Co-op?
It is so low stress. The customers are kind and my co-workers are amazing. People really go out of their way to let us (the employees) know that we’re appreciated in the community.
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc. I love adventures of any kind. Whether that’s hiking, paddle boarding or going to theme parks. I also enjoy music and spend warm days with my guitar in the woods.
Katie Cummings - Assistant Manager
How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I’ve worked at the Co-op since February 2022.
Favorite product: Round House Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies.
Favorite part about working at the Co-op? Getting to interact and build a connection with regulars and learning about local farms and businesses.
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc. I love to cook! It's fun to experiment with new flavors and ingredients that the Co-op can provide for me. I love cooking for friends and family and sharing my love of nutritious, delicious food! Watching ingredients transform and knowing they are contributing to a sustainable food system brings me so much joy.
Katie Kerr - General Manager
How Long Have you worked at the store/been a member/shopper? I have worked at the Co-op since June of 2020 and was an occasional shopper for at least a decade before that.
Favorite product: Cheese! Gosh golly, I love cheese.
Favorite part about working at the Co-op? The challenge, it is not easy to keep a grocery store going. There is always something different to do or a new obstacle to overcome. I really like the physical part of the job too, "I like to pick things up and put them down" is something I can often be heard saying in store.
Tell about something you like to do in your off time or a side-gig, etc. About 9 years ago, I joined Gina's Bollywood Dance group at Hubbard Hall with two of my Girls Scouts in preparation for a Girl Scout trip to India. It was an amazing trip (ask me about it sometime)! I loved Bollywood dancing so much I never stopped! Several years ago Gina introduced me to BollyX fitness and inspired me to become an instructor. In February of 2020, I became a certified Low Impact BollyX instructor and have enjoyed teaching, mostly on Zoom, ever since.
