Meet the Staff: Sophia Miner

By Melissa Carll, Marketing and Sophia Miner, Front End Associate

Over the past few years there have been many changes to the dynamics of staff structure in the store.

Why is that the case? Well, the store has been growing the amount of product it carries, sales are increasing, and the need for focus in specific areas (management, ordering, administrative needs, produce care, and customer service--to name a few), and not least, this pandemic, have ultimately started to reshape the needs of the store.

While the working membership is still on pause temporarily, the staff has started to step up in ways that weren't needed previously when there were so many wonderful members helping to keep the store afloat.

Sophia is a Front End Associate. She runs the register, provides shoppers with assistance, restocks, and takes care of every other little odd and end that comes up during the day. She is awesome at what she does!

COVID-19 doesn't really allow us the time to stop and chat as much as in years past, but we still want you to feel right at home with the person behind the register. So, we took a quick minute to ask Sophia a few questions about herself.

Q: Where are you from originally (where did you grow up?) and how did you make your way to Cambridge, NY?

A: I was a military brat so grew up all over the United States, but I call Cordova, a small fishing town in Alaska, my home. (Sophia currently lives in Salem).

Q: What excites you the most about food co-ops in general, or the local food movement, or community?

A: I love that food co-ops rely on teamwork. Each and every person is important and necessary in their own way, and everything would be much harder without them.

Q: What's your favorite part about working at the Cambridge Food Co-op?

A: My favorite thing about working at the Cambridge Food Co-op is the stories. Every shift I get to hear some interesting story about someone's life, it's amazing!

Q: Just for fun, let our customers know your favorite food(s) to eat/make?

A: My favorite food is probably Sushi or Pineapple.

Q: Do you have any hobbies or activities that you really enjoy?

A: I have far too many hobbies to count, but the main ones are, Gardening, Singing, Guitar, any messy art and Gaming.

Q: Goals or Aspirations for 2021 (or post pandemic, or life dreams, or…?)

A: I am hoping to go to college! I am also hoping to travel the world, post pandemic. I have a large list of places I would like to visit.

Thanks, Sophia, for answering some questions for us!
